MASS BALES FOR THE FEED INDUSTRY.
UNOTECH® GMBH TO ENTER INTO A NEW MARKET SEGMENT WITH ALFALFA BALING.

Niederlangen. unoTech® GmbH has embarked on a new path that utilises its well-known precision and reliable quality by entering into a completely new market segment - baling the forage crop alfalfa.

In the summer of 2018, this renowned manufacturer of presses commissioned the first UPAMAX® two-way-press in Spain. The press reliably compacts this clover-like forage crop after it has dried into homogeneous, big bales of exact dimensions.
The client for this installation was one of the major animal feed producers in Southern Europe. The first alfalfa bale press was successfully put into use and, having proven to operate without any problems, the client has already ordered the second installation.

Alfalfa or Lucerne, as the plant is also known, was already considered to be a highly valuable forage crop in the Roman Empire and has been cultivated in fields in Central Europe since the 16th century. Its very long and branched roots enable it to survive droughts and ensure a high mineral content. Alfalfa is among the crops that are the richest in nutrients, making it the first choice for animal feed, particularly for horses, dairy cows and cattle.
The natural product is harvested as sun-dried hay three to four times a year and preserved as dry feed. The stackable 500-kilo strapped bales produced by the UPAMAX® are excellently suited to being transported and stored for a long time.
The particular challenge contained in the order for press manufacturer unoTech® GmbH was complying with the specific requirements concerning the size, shape and stability of the square bales of animal feed. The main aspect was ensuring good transportability and the storage suitability of the material - the further processing of the bales requires them to have a fixed size, an exact shape and long-term stability.
Other fixed specifications, besides the maximum load capacity of the transport lorry used, were the size of the wheel loader and the loading areas used, as well as the number of bales per load. The result fit the bill: The high-performance two-way press achieves a total weight of 30,000 kg per load, when loading 60 alfalfa bales. The press in the UPAMAX® series is characterised by the two compaction chambers that are arranged orthogonally to each other. The two-way press enables the dry material to be processed to form exact rectangular bales that are then strapped and belted with a specially developed material in a protected box structure outside the compaction chamber. The unoTech® UPAMAX®is a highly efficient production system that sets new standards as regards availability and ease of use.
"Our alfalfa bales are produced to size, like a tailor-made suit," was how Michael Ludden, Executive Partner in the LM-GROUP, described the result of the work. "The worldwide transportation of the bales of feed required us to guarantee an extraordinary degree of quality both as regards compaction and strapping.“
By introducing the UPAMAX® as a feed press, unoTech® GmbH has complied with all the requirements for compressing alfalfa, guaranteeing a uniform and lasting bale quality to its customers, and the company has thus successfully entered into a new market segment: the feed industry.
