NEW COMPACTING TECHNOLOGY TO INCREASE OVERALL PROCESS EFFICIENCY.

unoTech® GmbH makes an important contribution to more sustainable waste management with the world premiere of UPASMART®.

Niederlangen. Digitisation is both a trend and a driver of innovation. It is penetrating an increasing number of industries and has a bearing on every area of social and economic life. In view of the ecologically necessary and politically desirable efforts to save energy and fossil fuels and conserve geogenic resources the reuse of recyclable waste is becoming increasingly important. Digitisation presents opportunities which unoTech®, as part of the disposal and recycling economy, has taken advantage of.

UnoTech® GmbH, manufacturer of channel baling presses and part of the LM-GROUP,  debuted the UPASMART® at IFAT in Munich, the world's first channel baling press equipped with artificial intelligence for the optimal baling of secondary raw materials. This new technology aims, among other things, to increase the efficiency of channel baling presses.

THE RESEARCH PROJECT. The LM-GROUP addressed the subject of digitisation as early as 2015 and began a research and development collaboration with the University of Bremen, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi). The aim of this R&D project is to use AI to control the process parameters for channel baling presses in such a way that, among other things, it produces an optimised bale. The R&D project produced a fully automated channel baling press based on artificial intelligence – the UPASMART®.

"With the UPASMART® – the first channel baling press with artificial intelligence – we achieved this goal and took an important step towards sustainable waste management: energy efficient plant technology to benefit the environment and business."

THE COMPANY. As an innovative developer and manufacturer of automated channel baling presses unoTech® GmbH has developed eight different model series of baling presses since it was founded in 2007 – all of them state of the art machines.

At the time of purchase the compactors have a preset number of settings/machine parameters (recipes), based on the current state of the art.

With the push of a button or with a selector switch the operator selects these recipes according to  the material. The preset recipes which unoTech® has collected from variable process parameters are the result of years of experience and engineering achievement.

The next evolutionary step will allow the intelligent control of the channel baling press to improve bale weights and save energy. In the field of compacting, artificial intelligence methods help us produce optimal bales.

Through the integration of AI-based control systems we achieve fully automated, and fully optimised operation of the equipment, with regards to both energy consumption and production quality.“
Michael Ludden, Manageing Partner of the LM-GROUP
